The Cryo1 is an automated, liquid nitrogen-based, cryo-focusing system designed to allow isotopic analysis of low concentration compounds (500 PPBv CO2 or less). As the gas passes through the system, the sample is frozen into a two stage liquid nitrogen trap. Non-condensable gases are flushed out of the system by a stream of helium carrier gas. Water and other unwanted compounds / gases are removed by a series of membranes and optional chemical traps, this produces a purified and concentrated sample that can be passed directly into a GC or other chromatographic apparatus. Unlike other commercial systems, the Cryo1 permits the direct syringe injection of headspace gas samples. This can be performed manually, or via a Gilson / GC Pal auto-sampler. Larger samples (250 ml +) can be introduced using the Large Volume Auto-Sampler. |
